BRD Media’s med spa marketing review of Meta’s ad standards, last updated July 2026, finds before-and-after images allowed for adult audiences
VILLA PARK, IL, UNITED STATES, October 5, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Med spa marketing on Facebook and Instagram is rejected for what an ad says about the reader, not for the before-and-after photo, according to a review by BRD Media LLC of Meta’s health and wellness advertising standards, which Meta last updated on July 22, 2026.
Meta’s standards list general cosmetic products, procedures and surgeries depicting a before-and-after transformation among the ads advertisers can run, provided the ad is targeted to people 18 years or older. Dermal fillers, skin rejuvenation treatments and hair restoration surgery are among the cosmetic procedures the same age rule covers.
The prohibitions sit in the copy. Among the things a cosmetic or weight loss ad may not do, Meta lists statements of inferiority about physical appearance, which it defines as terms, descriptions or questions that are negative and attack a person’s appearance, specific body parts or hygiene. The same list bars a close-up that pinches fat on a body area, and clickbait promises of a specific outcome within a set timeframe without disclaimers or qualifiers. A separate Meta policy on personal attributes prohibits ads that assert or imply a person’s physical or mental health.
“A clinic whose ad gets rejected usually blames the photo, swaps it, resubmits, and gets rejected again,” said Christopher DeWilde, founder of BRD Media LLC. “‘Tired of your double chin?’ attacks the reader. ‘Kybella dissolves submental fat in two to four sessions’ describes the treatment. Same service, same photo, two different outcomes at review. The fix is almost always one line of copy.”
Med Spa Marketing on Meta: Where a Rejection Starts
The review reads a typical disapproval against the copy before the image. Lines that describe or question the reader’s body come out first, then any promise of a result by a date, then any pinching close-up, and the audience is checked for the 18 and over setting. The guidance on Facebook ads for med spas advises against audiences built on health interests or body-related behaviors and builds them instead on location, age, lookalikes of a clinic’s own patient list and people who already visited a treatment page.
The guide treats a restriction on an entire ad account, rather than a single ad, as an eligibility problem, not a creative one, so swapping images will not clear it.
Med Spa Marketing on Google: Eligibility Comes First
On the search side of med spa marketing, Google’s healthcare and medicines policy restricts the promotion of services related to the online prescribing, dispensing and sale of prescription drugs, and allows telemedicine providers accredited through LegitScript’s Healthcare Merchant Certification Program, with requirements that vary by location. The guide reads a clinic that sees every patient in person and prescribes at the visit as usually outside that certification step, though its ad copy still has to clear the drug policy. A clinic running a GLP-1 program with online intake is generally inside it and has to settle certification before an account is built.
“Most of the money lost on med spa ads is lost before anyone looks at a report,” DeWilde said. “A $22 lead from thirty-five miles out who never shows is worse than a $60 lead from four miles away who books a series. Cost per lead is a vanity number. Count the consults that walk in the door, by channel, and the budget question answers itself.”
