Why Color and Finish Matter More Than Ever in Outdoor Hardscape Projects

Portland Rock Expands Retaining Wall and Paver Selection with New Color and Size Options

Clackamas, United States – April 23, 2026 / Portland Rock & Landscape Supply /

Homeowners across the Portland Metro area are spending more time in their yards, and they’re building them out to match. Patios connect to outdoor kitchens. Raised beds sit alongside fire pits. Retaining walls frame seating areas instead of just holding back slopes. The outdoor space has become part of the home, and customers want materials that fit with what’s already there.

That shift has put more pressure on color and finish. A retaining wall built with mismatched caps or the wrong tone stands out against an otherwise cohesive landscape. Contractors are fielding more questions about product options before the project starts, and homeowners are paying closer attention to the details that used to be afterthoughts.

Portland Rock & Landscape Supply recently added products to its retaining wall and hardscape inventory to give customers more to choose from. The additions come from the Oregon Block, Murata, and Gradino lines, with a focus on caps, corners, step treads, and pool coping. New paver options include La Lastra, Leiden, Camino and Park & Plaza. Colors include Charcoal, Pewter, St. Helens, and Cambridge, tones that sit well against the native greens and grays common in Pacific Northwest landscapes.

Murata step treads are available in 36-inch and 48-inch lengths for terraced entries and transitions between yard levels. Gradino step blocks work for smaller paths and garden elevation changes. Monaco pool coping in Charcoal provides a finished edge for pool surrounds and raised patios. Allan Block caps and corners are available in matching colorways across the Classic, Metro Patio Wall, and Aztec lines.

“People want their outdoor space to feel like it belongs with the rest of the property,” said Melesa Becker, Yard Manager at Portland Rock. “When the colors and finishes line up, the whole yard looks like one project instead of five separate ones.”

The new products are available now at Portland Rock’s Clackamas and Gresham yards. Delivery is available throughout the Portland Metro area.
